What I Think With

As a man thinks in the fertile garden of his mind
So he becomes in word and deed, habit and his life
And harvests from his soul the fruitage of his thought
As desired orchards or thorns, thistles and weed

From my youth I’ve read and known the Word
I learned it by heart and live by its tenets and laws
I think in line with the principles and examples of the Word
And walk gingerly along its ways in all daily activities
Far from servile, idle and wayward thinking and doing
The Bible is my constant companion and standard to live by
Like an enduring lamp at my feet and light on my path
Guiding me through dark days, howling winds and storms of life

In times of distraction by grief, sorrow, sadness or pain
I find comfort, solace and healing hope from its light
Full of clear wisdom, insight, beauty and simple knowledge
That inspires the mind to bring out the best in me
And aid judgment and decision on issues and problems
To help me deal with the task and chores at hand
And leads me back to the sheltered present moment
Of peace, tranquillity, overflowing joy and contentment

In a contrary world of political correctness and negativity
Full of malice and hatred, falsehood, deceit and double-talk
Where relative values, loose morals and conflicting conduct rule

The Bible offers me a way to think, like a lighthouse of eternal truth
With clarity to navigate the tangled mess of daily life
It serves me well as a moral compass with enduring promises
Solid, steadfast and unchanging in a world of constant change
Though mocked and often ridiculed and misquoted by many
The Bible is “my place” of thinking, speaking and doing
My standard for values that delights and meets all my needs
