If you have anything against anyone, forgive him (drop the issue and let it go).
So that your Father, who is in heaven will also forgive you your transgressions and wrongdoings (against Him and others).
But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your transgressions (Mark 11:25-26).
We all sin every day in thought, words and deed. The idle words we speak over ourselves and others lay a heavy burden of sin on our souls and lives.
We sin inadvertently by mistake, foolishness or blunder and wilfully from pride, lust, greed, desire and our natural bent towards wickedness and evil.
We sin against God the Father, through disobedience and against ourselves and others. We live in a crooked and perverse generation and cannot be free from sin. Like fish in water we are all mired in the gutter and sewer of sin and cannot escape the stain and stench of sin and wrongdoing by our own effort.
If we continue to pile up sin, wrongdoing and blunders, they will eventually weigh us down and chain us to the past and to those who have wronged, abused, betrayed or oppressed us. This is a very heavy load for anyone to carry through life and still live an overcoming and victorious life of peace.
Way out
But God the Father in His mercy and kindness has made a way out from sin through the sacrifice and shed blood of Jesus Christ. Therefore everyone can be cleansed from sin and wrongdoing, through faith, anytime and anywhere.
This way out is through forgiveness. As we forgive others their mistakes and wrongdoing against us, God the Father will also forgive all our wrongdoing against Him, ourselves and others. This is the law of forgiveness.
Letting go
However, if we refuse to forgive others or reject the shed blood of Jesus as a way out or atonement for our wrongdoing, the heavy burden of sin remains.
Thus we must first let go of the past and our own burden of sin
in order to receive the grace and mercy of forgiveness from God.
Forgiveness does not
Forgiveness does not condone the wrongs we have done or those done to us. It only breaks the chain that bind us fast to the pain of events and issues of the past and to the people who have harmed and mistreated us. Therefore forgiveness is a choice we make to break that chain and be free from the heavy burden and bondage of sin and wrongdoing.
This freedom brings a welcome peace to the heart, serenity and calmness to the burdened soul and a mind clear of schemes and plans for revenge. We can then focus on our lives and leave abusers and oppressors to God.
Vengeance
Many people seek revenge to get even with abusers or those who have hurt and oppressed or defrauded and cheated them. But God has commanded us to leave vengeance to Him alone. He can do a better job of it than we can.
He knows their motives and sees the hearts of abusers and tests their mind to know why, how and when they did whatever they planned and carried out. Therefore He can weigh their actions and abrasive and destructive words and reward them accordingly. He also rewards those who obey the law of forgiveness by forgiving their sin and cancelling the penalty of their debt.
Action Today
You can confess all your sin, wrongdoing, mistakes, blunders and foolish acts to God and plead the blood of Jesus to cleanse your heart, soul and life from the bondage of sin and remembrance of your wicked and wayward past and you will be free of sin, its guilt and condemnation and the penalty thereof.
The Bible promises that:
“If we admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, God is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and cleanse us continually from all unrighteousness (wrongdoing and everything not in conformity with His will and purpose for our lives)” —1 John 1:9
So act now, today and be free from the pain and burden of your past and live a new life of freedom from sin with peace and the joy of a clear conscience and serenity of soul and mind. Your future demands it and you can achieve it.
