What can I give in exchange for my soul?
My only precious soul, without compare
That can endure this earthly life
And way beyond to eternity
Fame and fortune are charlatans
Conning the unwary and naive
With promises of happiness
Respect and grandeur in comfort
Riches often grow wings and fly away
When most needed to solve problems
Knowledge will age and cease from use
While some friends betray and foes destroy
Family folks mostly seek their own interest
And careers can only last for a season
But my soul provides a sure haven
For solitude, quietude and renewal
Anywhere and anytime of the day
A place where I can always retire
To re-fire the mind and energise the body
And get clear answers to nagging issues
When troubles beset and trials get tough
As they often do in this life
Then I emerge refreshed and delighted
Ready to take on whatever may come
With new insight and strength gained in retreat
And zeal, like one on a mission
To keep me fresh and still bearing fruit
From deep within my calm and peaceful soul
