Pleasures — Boethius (480-524 AD)
All human pleasures have one quality alike
They drive their devotees with goads
And like a swarm of bees upon the wing
They first pour out their honey loads
Then turn and strike their victim’s heart
And leave behind their deep set sting
Wield power —Marianna May
Whoever wants to wield high power
Must first tame the passion for pride and greed
And to the lust of the flesh never cower
And starve his zeal for wicked deed
Associations – Proverbs 24:21-22
My son do not associate with those who are given
To change of allegiance and are revolutionary in nature
For their tragedy will rise suddenly
And who knows the punishment that
(Both the Lord and the King)
Will bring on the rebellious?
Proverbs 25:25, 13:12
Like cold water on a summer’s day
Is good news from afar
To soothe the soul and calm the mind
Like a longing when it’s fulfilled
For hope deferred makes the heart sick
But when a desire comes, it is like a tree of life
Neither lend nor borrow
Neither a lender nor a borrower be
Be content with what you can afford
So from worries and debt, be free
And keep alive the friendship cord
Proverbs 25:28, 24:5
Like a city that is broken down and without walls
(Leaving it unprotected)
So is a man who has no self-control over his spirit
(And sets himself up for trouble)
But a wise man is strong
And a man of knowledge
Strengthens his inner power
Be strong in trial
Nothing will attack you that you are not capable of overcoming
No problem will vex you that you cannot solve.
The greater the trial, the greater your test of strength,
And the more complete and triumphant your victory will be.
When you have mastered that which threatens to master you,
You will rejoice in a new found inner strength.
Daily wisdom
When pressures of daily life mount
And fear and dread take the helm of the mind
Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might
So you can withstand the wiles of the devil and win the battle
